Overview
The Neuro-ophthalmology Fellowship Programme is a university-based, multidisciplinary fellowship involving the departments/divisions of ophthalmology, neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology at the University of British Columbia. There are presently seven adult and one pediatric neuro-ophthalmologists involved with the programme.
There are eight to nine neuro-ophthalmology clinics per week, divided among St. Paul’s Hospital, VGH Eye Care Centre, University Hospital, BC Children’s Hospital, and Surrey Memorial Hospital. Approximately 140 patients per week are seen in consultation at these clinics. Patients come from all of British Columbia and the Yukon.
Successful applicants to the fellowship programme will receive intensive exposure and training in the management and study of neuro-ophthalmic disease. They will see all referred patients and manage their conditions under the supervision of the staff neuro-ophthalmologists. There will be interaction with neurology and ophthalmology residents during these clinics. The fellows will gain experience in clinical neuro-ophthalmology through six to eight half-day sessions per week. Three half-days can be made available for research activities, larger blocks if desired. Fellows will also be required to attend and present at academic rounds.
How to Apply
The fellowship runs from July 1st through June 30th. Shorter periods of study occasionally can be arranged. There are both funded and non-funded positions. Faculty can and have assisted applicants in obtaining funding from external organizations and local institutions.
Interested applicants MUST contact the supervisor as there are no applications available. Further instructions will be sent to the applicant once they are accepted into the fellowship program by the supervisor.
