On September 26, 2023, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, B. Battsetseg, presented Dr. Parsons with the prestigious “Order of Polar Star”, the highest state award of Mongolia, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the training of Mongolian ophthalmologists and specialists. This distinguished honor was conferred by Presidential Decree, highlighting Dr. Parsons’ significant impact on the healthcare landscape in Mongolia.

For nearly a decade, he has strengthened the capacity and skills of local ophthalmologists while ensuring free access to medical services and treatments for patients in remote areas of Mongolia.

Furthermore, The Laurel Surgical Foundation’s new establishment of the Mongolia Observership Program in partnership with the UBC Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences, will provide new opportunities for professional mentorship and knowledge-sharing. Led by Dr. Hugh Parson and his colleagues, this program models the value of intercultural exchange through creating new avenues for transforming health and well-being.
